Having a significant change you would like to make in your life is daunting enough but having to take this on entirely on your own is what often puts people off.  Even with a good change strategy in mind, it can be difficult to make a start and having no one supporting you along the way can mean the good habits begin to fall by the wayside without you even realising it’s happening.  When I work with you to help you achieve your aspirations, we work collaboratively to set you on the right path and I help you monitor how it’s going to keep you motivated and support you in making any necessary tweaks to your plan.

A Journey and not a destination

The phrase ‘life’s a journey not a destination’ is well worn but, strangely enough, rarely gets used in relation to create a path to change.  We too often see change as something that happens in a flash.  Looking at what we want to achieve like eating healthily or losing weight, we immediately change our entire diet and exercise habits.  Trying to maintain a change like with using willpower and determination alone is inevitably doomed to fail as life intervenes and we lapse into old ways.

What I help people do instead, is break down their aspirations into tiny micro-practices that are very easy to incorporate into their lives.  As these are successful and people begin to feel really good about achieving them, we can add more and more of them to achieve something really remarkable from such apparent tiny changes.  Working with people individually means I can help them create the tiny habits they need to get where they want to go.

Once we have established a plan of small positive habits that will add up to help you achieve your aspiration, we can work together to keep you on track.  It’s a strange thing that we feel much more obliged to remember to do something if someone is going to ask us about it than if we are just doing them for ourselves but it seems to just be how we work as human beings.  By having regular sessions with me, I don’t just help you remember to perform your micro-practices but also help you tweak any which are not working or examine why any of them either aren’t sticking or aren’t suiting you.

Shared successes

An absolutely vital part to any programme for change is celebrating success.  Positivity is so much more powerful in creating lasting good habits than negativity.  Too often we feel guilty for not doing something we should or doing something we feel we shouldn’t while we don’t often enough take the time to celebrate the good things we do.  It doesn’t have to be a big thing but just a little moment to feel good about our achievements, no matter how small, is really important.  Having someone to share this with is particularly useful.  As this method for change requires breaking aspirations down into very small good habits, it can sometimes be hard to make others understand why such small things are worth celebrating so it’s nice to share your small but highly significant successes with someone who understands and is genuinely pleased for you.

My one to one coaching programmes are usually either six or twelve week programmes depending on your needs.  If you need more or fewer sessions, I can accommodate that and discuss it before you begin or as you go along.  These programmes are tailored to you so I am happy to make changes as required.
